TechKNOWLEDGEy Strategic Group was founded in 1992 by Steve Maxwell. Mr. Maxwell has almost thirty years of experience in the environmental service and water industries. He previously served as Manager of Strategic Planning for Union Pacific Corporation; Vice President of Planning and Marketing for the hazardous waste management company USPCI, Inc.; and Executive Vice President and Director of Recra Environmental, an environmental testing and consulting firm. Mr. Maxwell also worked in the mining and metals divisions of Marathon Oil Company and Getty Oil Company earlier in his career.

Mr. Maxwell is very active in the environmental business community, serving on a number of advisory boards, and speaking frequently on competitive and market issues to business and trade organizations. During each of the past several years, he has organized a major executive-level conference dealing with broader trends and challenges in the international water market. Mr. Maxwell publishes frequently in the trade and professional press and is regularly quoted in environmental publications, as well as more general publications like The Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Barron's and the Harvard Business Review. He is a regular contributor to various environmental publications including the Environmental Business Journal, Journal of the American Water Works Association and the Environmental Lab Washington Report. Mr. Maxwell was also the founder and Editor of The Environmental Benchmarker & Strategist - one of the environmental industry’s most comprehensive sources of financial and competitive data. Mr. Maxwell is also the editor and a key contributor to a recent book entitled The Business of Water – an analysis of the business and commercial aspects of the water industry.

Mr. Maxwell holds Masters Degrees in both Geological Sciences and Public Policy from Harvard University, and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Earlham College in Geology and Economics. He lives in Boulder, Colorado with his wife Susan. Mr. Maxwell is an avid long-distance cycler, and enjoys photography, skiing, hiking and other outdoor activities. Originally from the mid-west, Mr. Maxwell spent many of his younger years in East Africa, and still enjoys international travel whenever the opportunity presents itself.
